Start early, don’t be afraid, you can do this

Your child’s Bat or Bar Mitzvah is a once-in-a-lifetime milestone for your whole family.

During the celebration, you have to give a speech. Oh oh..

You want your daughter or son to remember what you say that day, for the rest of her/his life.

So I suggest you start working on your speech early – right after you book the temple or synagogue - not the day of, or the night before.

Here’s how I suggest you begin:

Scribble down all your thoughts and feelings on a piece of, or even a scrap of, paper.

Your heart is not software. Holding a pen or pencil is much more intimate, so don’t use your phone or computer. Well, try.

Let your thoughts pour out of you like water from a tap. Please don’t cross out anything. Deal?

You’ve made a good start. Stay on it. But if you get stuck, and stay stuck, I can make your feelings sing. And I’m always here for you.
